"Sometimes being a brother is better than being a superhero"
Nine months is a long time to wait even as adults to meet a brand new little person, one you have longed for and prayed for. I think six months is even longer than that in a four year old's world and Noah astounded me with how well he waited, how patient he was but also how his excitement and anticipation of the arrival of "Pebble" never wained.
He was a proud big brother from the very early stages and we dared to hope that the love he had for this little baby (still such an abstract concept for him until he or she actually arrived) would last; that feeding and changing and crying all eating into Noah's time with us wouldn't diminish his affection.
Having been the centre of attention in our family for four and a half years we really expected the arrival of the real-life sibling to cause at least some negative feelings but so far Noah really has amazed us.
He hasn't been an angel, don't hear me wrong; all the extra fuss and affirmation we've been giving him for being a "super big brother" - along with lovely family and friends making him feel special - has had its drawbacks! He had a week or so of expecting that every gift was for him and being completely overtired and overexcited but goodness me, compared to how he could be receiving this epic change to his world, the boy is doing very well! Is it wrong to be proud of him for that? I hope not.
He's been such a sweetheart in praying for me and my recovery, rarely getting frustrated at how little I'm doing for him. He prayed for a long time for this little brother, almost as much as we did, and I am so thankful to God for answering his beautiful faith-filled prayers and blessing us all with a brother for him. I think they are going to be a force to be reckoned with as they grow together! For now though they are seriously cute...!
