When we were little, my parents used to let us do this every once in a while and it remains one of my favourite childhood memories. With Daddy off work this week for a little "holiday at home" it seemed a great time to do it with Noah.
After dinner we all got into our PJs, brought the mattresses down off the beds and snuggled up with tasty treats to watch a film together. Reuben cooperated like a little dream and slept on Daddy's shoulder until the final twenty minutes of the film (Noah's choice: "Alvin and the chipmunks") then came to Mummy for his own little snack before actually finding the final scenes quite interesting to watch!
It was a late night by the time Noah went off to sleep, and Sketch was pretty confused but seemed happy to go with whatever his crazy humans were up to this time! I did find him curled up by my feet at some point during the night.
That didn't bother me; the only slightly scary moment was turning around and finding Noah's cuddly orangutan eye-balling me!!
We managed to navigate night feeds and nappy changes (and a 3am snack session for this feeding mummy!) all without fully waking Noah. I must admit I had expected that by the early hours we may have given up on sleeping downstairs and relocated the mattresses back to the beds but happily, I was wrong!
Special memories made. Thank you Mum and Dad for giving me special things to pass on for my children to enjoy. And here's to tonight in my own bed!
